Buying wholesale and then selling retail is no new thing and of course I recommend it but buying wholesale online can be very tricky because this is an area that has been very tread upon by other online business-people. There are many places you can go in search of wholesale bargains and I will outline a number of them right here but I urge you to follow these few tips before you start busting into your savings or your credit card to make a wholesale purchase.
  • Make sure the company you are planning to buy from is established and reputable  -  Now I love the internet as much as anyone else but beware of scam artists and deals that seem to good to be true. Internet sales are a vicious marketplace and there are a lot of people who just want to take your money. A simple Google search on a company will help you right away to get a good idea of what kind of reputation a company has.   • Check out how much the product you are interested is selling on Ebay and Amazon -  Ebay and Amazon are two of the biggest and greatest marketplaces in the world and there is great sums of money that can be made for you through the usage of these two sites, so it would be a good idea to check prices on whatever item you are thinking of buying, on Amazon and Ebay. I am assuming that you are going to want to do some type of Amazon/ Ebay selling because these are booming marketplaces that have made many, many people very wealthy.For instance - If you are thinking of buying ten Iron-man action figures from a wholesale source for $ 3.00 apiece, then go check out this same item in Amazon and Ebay, the prices you see in front of you then will go a long way in determining whether or not you want to go through with the sale - If you are seeing lower or at least competitive pricing then you must then calculate the shipping costs - From your supplier and to your customer and all other costs involved (Amazon /Ebay fees - PayPal fees, The cost of the shipping envelope etc)
  • Compare Pricing  -  There are some really good wholesale supplier directories online which that have many wholesale companies listed that could be selling the product/ niche you are looking at. If you want to buy cologne wholesale, and sell it on your website and maybe also on Amazon- look around and see what suppliers have to offer you and it never hurts to pick up the phone from time to time and actually talk to a supplier. Suppliers are happy to talk to you and answer your questions and this builds a nice relationship over time that could be very beneficial to you both.
  • Start out with small orders -  Be ambitious, but not overambitious. If you think you have something that is going to sell then make an order but make it on the smaller side this way if your product doesn't sell as quickly as you thought you are not wiped out financially and, also, you don't want a lot of inventory hanging around. You want to be a retailer, not a hoarder! On Alibaba, for instance there are suppliers who will sell you 50000 unit wholesale lots but also will happily sell you a lot of ten units or even 1 or 2 - these suppliers know that you have to test the waters before you jump in; also, when dealing with a new supplier it is always highly recommended to start with a small order so that you can see how quickly he ships and if his product is as described.
  • Take your time -  Be cautious, be careful, look around. The internet isn't going anywhere and there are plenty of sales to be made by you, me, and everyone else. A Google search will find you wholesale suppliers but that's about as far as that goes - you can certainly do it but make sure you cross reference and look for reviews.
